Workout Wednesday - DJ Tess
Welcome back to another #workoutwednesday and this week we have no other than DJ Tess of Slo' Mo fame. I met fellow crate digger Tess while she was DJing in a furniture store and I asked her if I could drop a couple of records. She graciously said yes and we've been friends ever since. Fave Smoothie: I love my Vitamix! My favorite shake right now is Peanut Butter & Jelly! Thats what I call it anyway ;) - it’s raspberries, blueberries, banana, peanut butter, whey protein, almond milk, oats, chia seeds and a drop of honey.
Fave Activewear: I’m absolutely obsessed with Onzie, a yoga/activewear apparel company out of Los Angeles, all garments made in downtown LA. They have high-waisted yoga pants which are hard to find and really funky prints. Check their website.
Fave Healthy Snack: Lately, I’ve been roasting baby carrots with just olive oil salt and pepper. It’s the perfect warm and delicious snack for the season. Also, a Tess original, the Citrus Kale Salad! Here’s the short recipe:
- 1 Pack of Lacinato Kale
- 3 Small Mandarins or Clementines
- 1/4 Cup Olive Oil
- 3 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
- 1 Tablespoon Fennel Seeds
- Chili Flakes
- Sea Salt/Crushed Black Peppercorns
Wash and de-stem the kale. It’s ok to have big and small pieces. Put in large bowl and pour in olive oil. Massage with bare hands until kale shrinks in size to half the volume. Peel mandarins, add slices by crushing them in your hand and letting the juices run over the kale before tossing in. Add lemon juice, fennel seeds and chili flakes, salt/pepper to taste. The salad is vegan, but a nice addition is 1/2 cup shaved parmesan for all my non-vegan cheese lovers. ENJOY!
Fave Non-Gym Physical Activity: Besides DJing, I would say dancing! Great for the body and mind, breaking a sweat on the dance floors burns calories and stress off at the same damn time! In the words of Faith Evans - “Get up on the floor / Don’t worry ‘bout a thing / The rhythm’s got you now / So come on, get into it.” You’re guaranteed to feel energized and body positive after a good dance session.
