#WorkoutWednesday focuses on real-life ways to get in shape and stay healthy and fit.  In addition to tips on fitness, we like to feature everyday people who are making a commitment to making healthy eating, exercise, and fitness a priority in their lives.  You won't find crazy fad diets or get skinny quick schemes here; just some ideas and motivation to help you honor your temple!  Most weeks we feature a Spotify playlist, either from me or from our featured interview for the week because music is a supreme motivator whether you're on the treadmill or on the road.   Contact me if you would like to be featured for a #WorkoutWednesday!

This week we are catching up with Rashida, an academic with a penchant for letting her rubber [shoes] hit the road.

HI I’m Rashida! I am a runner and overall I like to stay healthy by incorporating fitness and healthy eating into my everyday lifestyle.  I am an academic so I tend to be on a nontraditional schedule, which allows flexibility with exercise.  My favorite activities include running, yoga, and I love finding myself at boot camp style classes.  I discovered how much I love running when I was in graduate school.  Since my professional life is about brain performance, I find I need to combat stress and anxiety with physical activity.  There are times when I feel that running is the only thing that keeps me sane.  Working out overall allows me to get out of my head and into my body.  

 

Favorite Things

Favorite work-out activity at the gym: When I go to the gym I prefer to do group workouts that employ Tabata or HIIT tactics.  

Favorite non-gym work out:  I absolutely love running outside and prefer to be outside than on a treadmill any day.  

Best clothes to work out in:   I am a big fan of SmartWool for my socks and shirts. I also love Old Navy’s Active Wear, particularly the pants.  My favorite workout tights are from Old Navy’s active line.  

Best gym shoes: Since I am a runner, sneakers (as I like to say since I am from NYC) are very important.  I discovered 3 years ago that my best shoes are Mizunos.  I buy either the wave inspire or wave rider series.   

Favorite warm up activities:  I’m not very creative when it comes to warming up, a brisk walk usually does the trick.  

Most hated yoga pose:  I know people love tree, but it is not my favorite. I do not hate it, but my tree is so dependent on what is going on with me in a given day that I never know how it will feel.  

Favorite post work-out snack:  Usually after a workout, a smoothie is definitely in order.

Favorite smoothie combo: My favorite combo is a brown rice, almond- milk protein shake with spinach, banana and mango.
