How to Ace the Weekend Getaway with Just 10 Items

It's been a hell of a week!  On top of general life stress, this election has just taken it out of everyone.  In an attempt to recharge the old batteries and gear up for the holiday season, it's time to take a break from Life As We Know It (read: at work and always on) to more basic pursuits: spending time by the fire, away from it all with a paperback book and a mug of something nice.

If you're pulling out a roller bag, you're already overdoing it.  Here's all you need for a cozy woodsy weekend, and it all fits in one carry-all.

Weekender Bag

Don't bother with anything on wheels.  A great (faux) leather bag is always in style and will be perfect as a train or flight carry on.

Dark Denim

Keep it dark in the case you a) spill or b) find yourself going into town for a nice dinner.  You can always top it with the jersey dress for some flair if it's a little chilly.

Cozy Sweater or Sweatshirt

A cozy, slouchy sweater will be great for chilly nights by the fire and chopping logs in the daytime.

Rugged Boots

From gathering firewood, to hiking and biking, a pair of rugged boots can give some edge to a feminine dress and keep you both sexy and safe!

Casual Button-Down

The chambray shirt is a wardrobe workhorse!  Tie it in a knot at the waist for country-chic or layer it under your sweater for a daytime hike.  Wanna switch it up a bit?  Trade your chambray for a casual plaid or flannel topper.

Blanket Scarf

This scarf will multitask as a shawl to keep you warm by the fire and also as a picnic blanket when you're having wine and cheese by the lake.

Opaque Tights

Layer these under your jeans for extra warmth and obvi rock them with your jersey dress.

Jersey Dress

This versatile piece will look great over tights and boots and also over jeans.

Big Sunnies and a Statement Necklace

Just because you're going on a woodsy vacation doesn't mean you can't look good.  There's always pictures!
