The Secret Life of Plants

One of my favorite things to do in the dead of winter is to take a tropical vacation fifteen minutes away from my house. My hair, skin, and soul get a warming Amazonian break at the Garfield Park Conservatory, located at Lake Street and Central Park Avenue in Chicago. It's best to make a day of it and start your warming journey with some NOLA-inspired fare at the nearby Inspiration Kitchens. The shrimp and grits will change your life and your dining dollars help change our most vulnerable populations' lives.

Five years ago, The Conservatory literally had a bad break. Baseball sized hail shattered the glass roof, leaving many plants damaged and much of the facility in ruin. It has completely rebounded and you can get your dose of flora and fauna seven days a week.  It's a photographer's delight: pack up your camera; especially your macro lens and get ready to embark on a journey into the secret life of plants (thanks, Stevie).
